Early settlers and pioneers Frank Frost and Leonard Rose purchased several hundred acers of land in mid 1800s. Rose and his wife bread and trained horses and called their ranch “Rose’s Meadow”. The name was shortened to Rosemeade, which gave the city its name. It was however shortened again to Rosemead. It wasn’t until 1959 that Rosemead became an incorporated city.
Bordering Temple city in northeast, San Gabriel to the southwest and El Monte to the east, Rosemead has a population of 53,000 people and spans 5.8 square miles.
This once farm land has now developed into a diverse community with several businesses and is home to the power company Edison International headquarter.
