La Verne is a tight-knit community, located 30 miles east from downtown Los Angeles. The city is situated to the east of San Dimas and to the west of Claremont. Pomona lies to the south. La Verne is nestled in the foothill of the San Gabriel-Pomona Valleys. The 210 freeway and famous Route 66 passes through the city.
Founded in 1887 and incorporated 1906, the city of La Verne flourished as a center of the citrus industry until after the World War II, when the citrus industry slowly subsided. Today the last two orange groves are on Heritage Park and the grounds of the La Verne Mansion.
With a population of 32,461, per 2017 US Census, La Verne has eight mobile home parks and three retirement communities, an airport, and a university as well as public and private schools. The Bonita Unified School District serves the city. The median household income between 2013 and 2017 was $82,829.
