Huntington Park stretches 3 square miles and has a population of 55,822 per 2017 Us Census with a large Hispanic community. Located 5 miles south of downtown Los Angeles, the city is zoned to schools in the Los Angeles Unified School District.
The city is named for prominent industrialist Henry E. Huntington, however the true founders of the city were a group of early residents. George A. Garlow, built the first large townhouse in 1903 (at 6610 Malabar); Dr. Louis Weber and Dr. Clinton W. Hubbard, were the first two medical doctors; A. E. Walters, built the first bank in town; O. G. Jones, A.A. Weber, D.B. Lyons, William Linsey and Frank Tate. They also established the first school district, formed the Huntington Park Association and managed to get the city incorporated in 1906.
Today, Huntington Park has a large Hispanic community and the city is home to one of Southern California’s largest the three-day spring festival, “Carnaval Primavera”, which is held in the month of April.
