Once known for its avocado, citrus and walnut orchards, in the early 1900s, the city of Hacienda Heights transformed into a suburb in the mid 1900s, after the citrus growing became unprofitable due to pests and diseases.
The city is located 19 miles southeast from downtown Los Angeles and is an unincorporated community in Los Angeles County. It’s served by the Hacienda La Puente Unified School District. As of the 2010 US Census, the community had a population of 54,038. Cities boarding Hacienda Heights are: Avocado Heights, City of Industry and La Puente, to the North, Whittier to the West; Whittier and La Habra- South, and Rowland Heights to the East.
